Broken Aventura Wastewater Pipes

The Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department announced Wednesday a wastewater pipe break in Aventura polluted the Little Maule Lake and surrounding surface waters. The department has issued a warning to residents who use this water source to boil or filter their drinking water before consuming it.

WASD plans to replace the impacted pipeline as part of a $4 million investment in projects that are scheduled for completion in April 2022. The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County and the Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources are the agencies tasked with testing the water. An environmental report is being conducted by the Miami-Dade County Department of Environmental Resources Management.

Our failing Miami-Dade sewer system is in need of restoration. This can only be achieved through the allocation of budgeting funds at the municipal level and homeowners taking action by inspecting their private sewer laterals. We urge the Miami-Dade County Commission to make a resolution to allocate funds and support private property owners with this expense. As for residents, it is important that we take action by inspecting our sewer laterals and hiring the professionals at Sewer Solutions to diagnose the current condition of these Miami-Dade sewer pipes.
